Weekend and evening online GP in Ireland

It is Saturday morning, the chemist is open, and your usual surgery is not. Here is how a weekend or evening online GP works in Ireland, what it costs, and when you still need 112.

It is Saturday morning. The chemist on the corner is already serving. Your usual surgery is shut until Monday. A child is hot. Or your own throat went overnight. That is when people type weekend GP Ireland and hope they do not have to sit in a waiting room with a magazine from 2019.

Friday evening is the same story in a different jumper. You finish work, the list at the practice is gone, and the symptom will not wait politely. BookMyDoc is a nationwide phone and video GP. Evening and weekend slots show on the calendar when a doctor is free. This is a booked clinic slot. Overnight cover is not a 24-hour promise.

Book an appointment if a slot is there. Skim how it works and pricing first if you want the layout.

What a weekend GP Ireland visit is

A weekend GP Ireland appointment is a scheduled phone or video consult with an IMC-registered doctor on Saturday or Sunday. An evening visit is the same idea on a weekday, outside the usual daytime window.

People also search evening GP Ireland, Saturday GP, after-hours GP, and weekend online doctor. Same job. Talk to a GP when the ordinary surgery hours do not fit.

BookMyDoc covers the Republic of Ireland. Keep your registered GP for ongoing care and HSE pathways. We do not replace emergency departments.

Weekend GP Ireland or 112?

If it is an emergency, skip the booking form.

Chest pain. Trouble breathing. Stroke signs. Heavy bleeding. A rash that does not fade under a glass with a high fever. Collapse. Call 112 or 999, or go to the nearest emergency department.

HSE GP out-of-hours co-ops are a separate route as well. They are the local service your area uses when your own practice is closed. BookMyDoc is a private phone and video clinic. Use the path that matches how unwell you are. Do not wait on an online slot if you need emergency care.

A sore throat can fit a remote visit. So can a simple urine infection question, or a rash the GP can see on video. A weekend sick-note chat only after a proper assessment. The GP still decides if remote care is safe. If they want you seen in person, they will say so.

A Saturday earache, or a tummy bug you can still describe, can fit that same visit when there are no emergency signs. Read earache in Ireland: when to see a GP or diarrhoea and vomiting: when to see a GP.

What evening and weekend slots usually cost

A typical weekday daytime visit is usually €35.99. Evenings are usually €40.00. Weekends are usually €40.00.

On weekdays, the standard window is typically 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Ireland time. Evening hours are 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Weekend hours are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Slots before or after that are after-hours. Saturday and Sunday use the weekend rate all day.

Fees can change. The amount on the booking screen is what you pay for that slot. Check pricing before you tap pay.

You pay for the consult. A certificate or treatment to a local pharmacy only happens if the GP decides it is clinically appropriate. Paying does not buy either.

How to book a weekend or evening slot

Same form as any other visit. How to book a GP appointment online has the clicks.

  • Go to book an appointment.
  • Pick the service that matches why you are here. Do not pick a cheaper type you do not need.
  • Open the calendar. Saturday, Sunday, and later weekday times appear when they are still free.
  • Pay the live fee. Watch Messages and email for the call or video link.

Same-day weekend slots happen when a GP is free. They run out. Book earlier in the day if you can.

Need a quiet corner for video, or a phone call while a toddler sleeps? Video vs phone helps you pick.

Evening online GP Ireland after work

An evening online GP Ireland slot is for the weekday after the daytime window has ended and the practice list is closed. Shift workers use it. Parents use it after school pickup. You still need a quiet place and a working phone.

The GP will ask the same clinical questions as on a Tuesday morning. Time of day does not lower the bar. If the story sounds like an emergency, they will send you to ED.

What to have ready on a Saturday

Name, email, phone, date of birth. A short note on what is going on. A card. The pharmacy you actually use, if the form asks.

If work wants a note on Monday, say so in the consult. A doctor's note is issued only after assessment, and only if the GP agrees. DSP and Illness Benefit forms can be picky. Some still need your registered GP.

You do not need a Healthmail address to book.

After the call

Follow the GP's plan. If they send treatment to a pharmacy, collect it when they tell you it is ready. If they want bloods, a clinic exam, or ED, do not treat the video as the last word.

Keep your registered GP in the loop for ongoing problems. A weekend visit deals with the problem in front of you. Your usual practice still holds your long-term care.

Book a weekend GP Ireland visit

If you need a weekend GP Ireland slot, or an evening one after work, book phone or video with an IMC-registered GP. Check the time and the fee on screen first.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see an online GP on Saturday or Sunday?

Yes, when slots are listed. Open the calendar. If Saturday is empty, try Sunday, or a weekday evening.

Why does the evening fee cost more?

Later and weekend times use a different rate. That is usually €40.00. Daytime weekdays are usually €35.99. Confirm before you pay.

Is this the same as HSE out of hours?

No. HSE out-of-hours GP services are a separate public pathway in your area. BookMyDoc is a private phone and video clinic. For emergencies, use 112 or 999.

What if I feel worse after I book?

If new red-flag symptoms start, call 112 or 999 or go to ED. Do not wait for the scheduled slot.
